About Ms. Advani

Why Choose Me?

My 20-plus years in education includes what the research says you want in an effective teacher*:

  • Gobbled up ethnic studies literature and social science research in UC Berkeley’s cafes, along with a plethora of pastries.

  • Gazed out over a sea of 50 faces at the Stanford University bookstore, stilling the butterflies in my stomach as I read aloud selections of my essay on activism, now cited as a reference. (In school, we’d call this a reflective essay.)

  • Inserted and moved commas and periods in 82 footnotes for my master’s degree research paper.

  • Hashed out a home-grown literacy plan for our low-performing middle school that resulted in improved standardized test scores.

A Little More About Me:

Once a week, you’ll find me rehearsing with my local community women’s chorus, preparing to bring joy to elders in retirement homes.

Being a dog-less dog lover, I playfully pet pooches at every opportunity.

After writing intently and before teaching, I move to my danceable 70s funk and soul mix to clear my brain and pick up the energy.

I love life and am excited to unlock your child’s reading and writing power.

Since we began working with Power in Language Tutoring in June 2020, our daughter has gone from hating writing to creating her own stories. Not only does Ms. Advani customize her lessons to what our daughter needs, she is also very patient and personable.”
